Winter, where are you?

#SOCsunday

My friend Kallay has been taking part in a blog link-up hosted by all.things.fadra, and I couldn't help but be attracted by the thought of a stream-of-consciousness post. I don't know if I'll do this every Sunday, but for today, we'll have some fun.

Fadra's prompt today was "How does winter make you feel and what do you do with those feelings?"

My first thought is that I like winter. That's easily said from my comfy computer chair in my brightly lit, warm kitchen. Today is a gorgeous, sunny day, and it's mid-afternoon. My house is bright and cheerful, and oddly un-winter-like. I have this avatar that says "Winter just wasn't my season." Normally, winter feels just as grey to me as that avatar. I can feel myself wilt as days go by without enough sun or warmth, and on the odd chance that there has been a rash of snowfall during the month, I've moved beyond wilting to outright desperation.

Don't get me wrong, I love the snow. I love the quiet as it falls. I've always thought that the sound of snow falling is perfectly captured in the movie It's a Wonderful Life. There's a moment when the scene is Bedford Falls with the snow falling, and the audio captures this quiet "thump," like snow falling from a tree branch. I love that sound. I miss it this year...we received snow before Halloween, but nothing has stuck since.

It makes me long for a "true" winter, but in reality I can't say I'm terribly sad. I'm enjoying the warmer days and the bright sunshine. The wind is still there for a proper chill every now and then, so hot chocolate sounds just right. One day, though, I'll be needing my winter snow...I have a suspicion it will sneak up on us in March and dump a season's worth at one time. We'll see.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

~ Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.

~ Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.

~ Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.

~ Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.

~ Link up your post at all.things.fadra.

~ Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

I have to admit, I cheated on not proofreading...I'm a proof-as-I-go writer, so I couldn't not correct spelling without breaking my SOC. I didn't go back and actively proof it for grammar and making sense, though, so I hope this will do! If you're reading this, I hope you consider joining in, too.

I hope the winter continues to be bright and sunny and not too gray!

I had snow all day yesterday, but with all that came down I don't know where it went. I have only a couple inches, maybe three. It went back up to 40ish today, so it should be gone soon, again. This is the mildest winter I remember in a long time. Nothing like the 3 feet last year at this time.

I don't really get sad in winter months, just kind of blah at times. I'm new to your blog and I will be coming back.

Thanks for stopping by A Walk With Words.

Thank you both for stopping by! Winter weather seemed to be a common theme of SOC this week. :)

I miss Winter, too. I wasreally looking forward to it this year! We got about a foot of snow last week, but I fear it will all be gone soon. However, it looks like there are some promising storms coming, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :D

We may see snow this weekend and I think I'm ready. My daughter in SC said they are supposed to hit 67 tomorrow. Ca-razy!

Kallay, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :) Somehow it's just not winter without at least one good snow.

Joyce, I know what you mean. My brother and sister-in-law are stationed in Texas, and she was telling me how much she is enjoying her t-shirt weather in January!

I'm so glad you linked up! I think we're all a bit ambivalent about winter. And I love that you can still appreciate it from indoors. Sometimes that's a lovely way to look at your house in a new way!
